We are so very happy to be in our final country, Venezuela. We have been running from Santa Elena, the border with Brazil, for four days now and are running through the National Park of Canaima which is full of tepuis, incredible natural formations with unique flora and fauna found no where else in the world. Water isn´t a problem now, because there are so many little streams that we can drink liberally. We are trying to run about 40 kms a day and when possible we sleep with local indigenous families who live close to the road in small communities. We are little worried about the mining areas after the town of 88. Many people have told us the area is dangerous, but there isn´t another route for us to run, so we will run very early in the day and for as many kilometres as possible to get through them quickly. So far, the people here in Venezuela have been really lovely. the first day we arrived in the country a family invited us to stay in their garden and we chatted together for ages.
Now we only have about 800kms to run to the Caribbean Sea and we would love to run with people along the way. So if you would like to join us, we will be arriving into the city of Ciudad Guayana on the 5th of October and in Carúpano on the 20th of October at 13.00- our final destination! You can find out more about our plans on our website: 5000mileproject.org and 5000mileproject@ facebook, twitter & youtube and of course Soymaratonista! We hope to see you soon! Cheers, Katharine and David

Saludos, Katharine y David
